Steampunk Parade

bardamu.org
A theatrical performance in the form of a traveling parade that unfolds amidst urban architecture. Narratively, it is a metaphor for our times, in which the present is viewed, ground up, and rewritten in a fantastical, anachronistic, and grotesque manner. Steampunk is a branch of fantasy and science fiction that introduces anachronistic technology into a historical setting. The reference period is often the 19th century, and the context is Victorian London. Steampunk stories describe an anachronistic world—sometimes a veritable uchronia—in which weapons and equipment are powered by steam rather than electricity. It is a world in which the archetype of the "survivor" is embodied in a close marriage between sophisticated technologies for solving the problems of survival and a nostalgia for the beauty of beautiful forms. In the Steampunk Parade this fantasy world meets the real and contemporary one, creating surprising narratives through languages derived from experimental theatre and contemporary circus.
